2. How much is the registration fee?

to view team registration fees. After holding registration fees steady for more than five years, this year’s pricing has changed. We continue to offer advantages to teams, special youth and senior pricing and have maintained free entries for children 5 and under.

3. Do I have to fundraise?
Fundraising is very important to our mission: ending breast cancer forever. It is strongly encouraged but not required. Donations are tax deductible. Proceeds support local breast cancer screening, treatment support and education programs (75% of net) and breast cancer research grants made by Susan G. Komen for the Cure (25% of net). Information on the 2012 Friends for the Cure program, now in development, will be added soon.

4. What is the Race route?

5. Where is Packet Pickup? And what is a “packet”?
Click here to view Packet Pickup dates, times and locations. “Packets” include your Race bib (number), t-shirt (excluding children 5 and under), survivor shirt and cap (breast cancer survivors only) and other information.

6. Can I pick up Race packets for others when I get mine?
Yes, just give volunteers the names of those you wish to pick up packets for (and be sure to let those people know to avoid confusion). Please note, however, no one can register for someone else (other than your own minor children) because each waiver must be signed by the registrant her/himself.

7. If I registered for the 5K Race can I change my mind and walk, or vice versa?
Yes, you can change your mind the morning of the Race and switch from Race to Walk, etc.

8. How many members are required for a team?
A minimum of 10 members is required for a team.

9. If I register a team does everyone have to pay or is it one price for the team?
Each team member must pay a registration fee. Children 5 and under are free, but must be registered. And, even though the kids are free, each registered child counts towards team numbers that may win your team an award! Note that online team member registration closes May 8 at midnight. 10. If I form a team can my company or organization pay the registration fees?
If your organization plans to pay for team member fees, please set up your team, and then email raceforthecure@karmanos.org requesting pay later arrangements.

11. Does a team have to walk together or can some people run and some walk?
Team members do not have to walk or run together; participate in whichever event you wish on Race day (5K Run, 5K Walk, or 1 Mile Walk).
And, you can change your mind the morning of the Race and switch from Race to Walk, etc.

12. Can my team design our own t-shirt?
Yes! Guidelines will be available soon in the 2012 Team Captain Kit now in development. Check back soon.
13. What is the difference between Team Packet PACKUP vs. Team Packet PICKUP?
Team Packet Packup- Help packup Team Race Packets and take yours home a week early! You MUST help pack to get this extra week advantage. And, you get lunch!
Team Packet Pickup- Pick up your Team Race Packets.

14. How does my company or organization become a Race sponsor?

15. Can I bring a dog?
For everyone's safety, pets (leashed or unleashed) are not permitted. Service dogs are not considered pets and, accompanying their human partners, are most welcome.

16. Can I ride a bike, scooter or rollerblade at the Race?
Not unless you are a paramedic or Detroit Police officer! For everyone's safety, bikes, rollerblades and scooters are not permitted.

17. Can I bring a stroller?
Strollers are allowed; however, for safety, we ask that you stay towards the back and to the sides of the Race route. Children 5 and under are free, but must be registered.

18. What if I am not able to walk that far? Do you have wheelchairs? Any special arrangements for survivors?
Thank you to Binson's Home Health Care Centers, Inc. for providing wheelchairs,
on loan for Race day. And, if you a re a breast cancer survivor not feeling quite up to a 5K, you are welcome to ride on the Survivor Trolley. To reserve a spot on the Trolley or a wheelchair, email raceforthecure@karmanos.org

19. How do I volunteer?
More than 1,400 volunteer opportunities will be listed soon. Many shifts allow volunteers to participate in the Race as a runner or walker (for which you must register separately). We couldn’t do it without our wonderful volunteers. Check the Home Page soon for Volunteer Signup.

20. How do I turn Friends for the Cure® money (donations I collect) in?
Manual donations, (checks not cash), submitted on paper Friends for the Cure forms can be mailed at any time to: 4100 John R, Mail Code: VE01RF, Detroit, MI 48201 Attn: Detroit Race for the Cure®.
Please make checks payable to: Komen Detroit Race for the Cure®. In order to be eligible for awards and incentives manual forms must be postmarked by July 1, 2012 and online donations must be received by July 1, 2012. Donations (checks and cash) may also be turned in on Race day at the Friends for the Cure tent.

21. Is my donation deductable?
Yes. All donations to the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® are tax deductable to the fullest extent of the law. Registration fees are not tax deductible.

22. How will donations be used?
Komen's mission is to end breast cancer forever. Net proceeds from the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure are distributed as follows: 75% to local breast cancer screening, treatment support and education programs serving low-income, un- and underinsured people in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties; 25% funds breast cancer research grants made by Susan G.
