Teams
Thank you, Sandy Jessop and Jan Tebelman, Teams Co-Chairs Sandy Jessop and Jan Tebelman, Team Co-Chairs, for your hard work in 2011 with 700 teams. And thanks for the great job you and your committee are doing for our 2012 Race.
Thank you, Team Captains, for all the dollars you raised and all of the members you brought to our 20th annual Komen Detroit Race for the Cure. Team members accounted for 63% of the registered participants-and a great deal of the fun! That will be true again this year. Scroll down to see who won the 2011 awards supported by our generous sponsors.
2012 Captains, many of you are well on your way. Now is the time to round up your members for May 26, 2012! It’s the Saturday before Memorial Day-- a great opportunity to encourage friends and family to build a long holiday weekend around the 2012 Race, enjoying all that our community offers. Our date is based on the Detroit Tigers’ schedule, so if “up north” is your tradition, consider these options so you can still help fight breast cancer:
- Make a fully deductible donation equal to your registration fees.
- Register and wear your shirt at the cottage. Take photos and send them to us—we’ll post them on the website or our Facebook page.
Visit back soon for more details on metro Detroit holiday specials.
A team is a group of 10 or more participants who register under a common team name and commit to raise funds (minimum of $100) to help end breast cancer forever. This is an opportunity to celebrate life and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer with those closest to you. Families, businesses, and organizations can honor breast cancer survivors or celebrate the lives of lost loved ones. Teams build employee morale, and boost the sense of affiliation and camaraderie for any organization!
Team captains are responsible for communicating with team members, driving fundraising and picking up and distributing Race materials. Please check the Team Captain Kit for more information on how to start a team.

Why a Team?
Komen Detroit’s Team Program offers groups of 10 or more people from all walks of life the
opportunity to make a difference in our community. Corporations, community
organizations, schools, families and friends - all can take part in the largest
grassroots effort in the country in the fight breast cancer.
- Together as a team you can speak with one voice in support of a coworker,
mother, friend, sister, whose life has been changed by the words, "You have
breast cancer." Worldwide, that happens every 19 seconds!
- Together as a team you can spread the word about early detection as the key to
survival.
Detected very early, breast cancer is 98% survivable.
- Together as a team you can raise money to support life saving education, outreach, treatment and research. Since Komen Detroit's first Race in 1992, we have raised and invested $21 million in breast cancer screening and treatment programs in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, in addition to supporting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program for breast cancer research and providing a year-round resource to our community through Komen Detroit initiatives.
- And together, you'll have a great time! Wonderful sponsors make our Team Awards
Program terrific!
