Michigan Governor Rick Snyder made a special visit to the Karmanos Cancer Institute on Feb. 14 to hear about the exciting work going on at Karmanos that is helping to advance cancer care nationally and across the globe. Karmanos President and CEO Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D.; along with Alan S. Schwartz, chair of the Karmanos Cancer Institute Board of Directors; Timothy Monahan; and Carol Christner, director, Government Relations for Karmanos, welcomed Gov. Snyder and took him on a brief tour.

Gov. Snyder saw first-hand the SoftVue prototype that he recognized in his 2011 State of the State address.  SoftVue is a breast cancer imaging device created by Peter Littrup, M.D., and Neb Duric, Ph.D., who shared the importance of this innovative technology and the progress being made to advance the early detection of breast cancer. Gov. Snyder also toured the Bone Marrow Transplant Inpatient Unit and met with Joseph Uberti, M.D., Ph.D., who discussed the life-saving work going on at Karmanos, which included nearly 300 transplants last year alone.
