5 Kids 4 a Cure tackled cancer this past summer with a booth at the Art in the Park fair at Kellogg Park in Plymouth, Mich. At their booth, people of all ages were able to purchase a foam football for $1 donation to throw through the center of a giant ribbon. If you made it in the center, you won a prize!
From the event, 5 Kids 4 a Cure were able to raise an amazing $836! Funds raised support the Jessie Bernard Patient Assistance Fund at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Due to extended illness and inability to work, many cancer patients struggle to meet their day-to-day, basic needs. The Jessie Bernard Patient Assistance Fund helps to assist patients and their families in meeting financial obligations with limited, temporary assistance for such needs as rent/mortgage, utility bills, medications, transportation, food/meals and other needs.
5 Kids 4 a Cure, made up of five kids from two families - Kenna (15), Gianni (15), Mia (13), Roman (12) and Mario (8) - started their group when one of their moms was diagnosed with breast cancer. They wanted to show their support and to raise funds to battle this disease. The Art in the Park fundraiser was just the beginning. They were so grateful and amazed by the wonderful support of the community, they have decided to brainstorm another fundraising idea for 2014!
Karmanos is extremely grateful to 5 Kids 4 a Cure and everyone who supported this wonderful event!
