The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute is the recipient of funds generated by the Daughters of Isabella Cancer Walk, which recently took place at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn.
Approximately 100 participants came out to walk on an outside track at the hotel and to raise donations for Karmanos. Money raised will go to fund women’s wellness initiatives at Karmanos.
Lisa Chism, DPN, nurse practitioner at Karmanos’ Women’s Wellness Clinics in Detroit and Farmington Hills, was on hand to speak to participants about the services that Karmanos provide to women through the wellness clinics and the superlative cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment services afforded to all patients who come to the center.
“At Karmanos, we are very dedicated to women’s health, not only those women who are going through cancer treatments, but those who are well,” Dr. Chism said. “We appreciate the efforts by the members of the Daughters of Isabella and the general public to raise funds for us so that we can continue providing services that promote the health of all women in our region.”
The Daughters of Isabella is one of North America’s largest Catholic women's organizations, with a membership of more than 60,000 women from the United States and Canada. Since its inception in 1897, it has established bonds among Catholic women throughout the world. Members encourage each other's total development and foster growth in every aspect of life -- spiritual, social and charitable.
