Karmanos Cancer Institute honors inspirational individuals and organizations with its 2013 Heroes of Breast Cancer Awards

Since 1995, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by recognizing individuals and organizations for raising awareness of breast cancer through education, research and the promotion of early detection, treatment and survivorship. Continuing this tradition, the Karmanos Cancer Institute presented its 19th Annual Heroes of Breast Cancer Awards on Oct. 29. More than 200 guests attended the event at the Max M. Fisher Music Center. Radio and television personality Ann Delisi, host of "Ann Delisi's Essential Music" on WDET 101.9 FM, served as emcee. Guests were entertained by members of the Detroit Symphony Civic Jazz Ensembles as well as local songwriter Steve Acho, one of the evening’s awardees.

Hidden Comerica Park was a sea of pink as more than 40,300 fans filled the ballpark for the second annual Pink Out the Park Friday, Sept. 13, when our Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6 to 3. This is the second year that the Detroit Tigers and Karmanos Cancer Institute teamed up to raise awareness of breast health, early detection and the importance of cancer research.

Hidden The Detroit Tigers and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute are teaming up for the second annual Pink Out the Park at the Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals game Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:08 p.m., at Comerica Park. This year’s Pink Out the Park event is sponsored by Delta Air Lines. The event raises awareness of breast cancer, as well as helps raise funds for breast cancer research at the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

The Detroit Tigers and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute are teaming up for Pink Out the Park at the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians game Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7:05 p.m., at Comerica Park. This special Pink Out the Park event, sponsored by Kroger, will raise awareness of breast cancer, as well as help raise funds for breast cancer research at the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
