Local propane company using fuel sales to fund breast cancer research at Karmanos

Hamilton’s Propane and Hamilton’s of Ortonville, Inc., operated by the same family for 37 years, are donating one cent per gallon of propane fuel they sell to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Hamilton’s Propane, with locations in Ortonville and Otisville, markets propane fuel to families and businesses in Oakland, Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw, Tuscola, Shiawasee, Sanilac and Livingston counties. Hamilton’s of Ortonville, Inc. sells animal feed and pet supplies and includes a fuel division that sells heating oil to residential homes; diesel fuel to construction companies and businesses; and sells wholesale race fuel throughout southeast Michigan.

“Being that we are a family business that has been supported by the local community for decades, we have decided to try to give something back,” said Paul O. Amori, general manager of Hamilton’s of Ortonville, Inc. “It’s our desire to assist local women who do not have the proper insurance or funds to obtain mammograms.”

Hamilton’s has painted one of its propane trucks and fuel trucks pink to promote the cause. Amori, who sees the promotion as a long-term project, estimates that propane fuel sales will generate $50,000 for Karmanos within the first five years.

“We truly appreciate the efforts put forth by Hamilton’s in generating funds to support the dynamic breast cancer research team at Karmanos,” said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of the Karmanos Cancer Institute. “Companies like Hamilton’s, working at the community level, make a great impact on helping us bring breast cancer under complete control.”
