Carol Strong, pain management coordinator at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center, has been chosen as the Nurse of the Year for 2013 through the Metro Detroit Oncology Nursing Society (MDONS).
Strong was nominated by Deborah Olszewski, nurse practitioner for the Genitourinary Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos.
“Carol is an excellent resource on the nursing units and is always ready to answer questions from nurses and physicians,” Olszewski wrote in her nomination letter. “She goes far out of her way to insure that new residents in medical and surgical services are educated in the proper use of long and short acting analgesics, as well as interventions for more serious, localized pain.”
Strong was honored at a recent special ceremony at Peking House in Royal Oak. She received a plaque and a $500 check as part of the award.
The Oncology Nursing Society is a professional organization of more than 35,000 registered nurses and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research and administration in oncology nursing.
