The Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center is an award winning outpatient facility designed and operatFemale athletes who took part in the 2012 Downriver League News Herald’s “Swim & Dive for a Cure” event raised almost $1,100 for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Participating high schools include those from Allen Park, Gibraltar, Wyandotte, Trenton, Woodhaven, Grosse Ile, Lincoln Park and Riverview.

The “Swim & Dive for a Cure” efforts, which took place at Allen Park High School in October, included the following fundraising events that raised money for Karmanos:
  • $320 – Carlson High School in Gibraltar did an “in honor of” flag sale and brought this amount with them to the meet.
  • $709 – Collected by the team captains in a 10-minute “rush the audience” spare change collection.
  • $65 – Representing half of the Allen Park High School’s 50/50 proceeds.
Schools also sold a special T-shirt at the event. Each school chose a specific cancer for which to raise money. These cancers ranged from leukemia to melanoma to ovarian cancer to breast cancer.

We thank the young lady athletes who generously raised these funds for Karmanos!
