Introducing Karmanos’ new Patient and Family Support Program for Blood Cancers

The newly-formed Patient and Family Support Program for Blood Cancers is a collaboration between the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is for cancer patients and their families.

The first meeting is scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and is highlighted by Alainna Pardon, RD, clinical dietician at Karmanos, who will present an interactive discussion on “Cancer Nutrition and You.”  It will take place in Karmanos’ Joseph Dresner Family Clinic for Hematologic Malignancies and Bone Marrow Transplantation at 4100 John R, Detroit, MI 48201. The event, parking and lunch are all free to those who wish to attend.

The program has been organized by Radhakrishnan Ramchandren, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Oncology at Karmanos and Wayne State University School of Medicine; Stephanie Mellon-Reppen, nurse practitioner in bone marrow transplantation; Cheryl Grey-Gilliard, oncology social worker and Silva Pregja, coordinator of the Hematology Oncology Program, all of Karmanos.

The group will meet quarterly to bring patients together with cancer experts, including physicians, nurses and social workers. The group offers a safe environment where patients and their families can discuss issues that are unique to those who are facing blood cancers.

Pre-registration is requested. Call (313) 576-9700 or visit
