The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has been fortunate to receive funds from two staff members who went all-out to raise support for breast care services.
Karmanos employees Sara Cordts, coordinator in Patient Concierge at Karmanos Cancer Center in Farmington Hills and Celeste Titus, a fellow coordinator in Patient Concierge at the Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit, hosted a “Pretty in Pink” event in early May at Black Finn Restaurant & Saloon in Royal Oak.
The event attracted more than 100 people and raised approximately $13,000, which will be split in half and shared between the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program of Wayne County, which Karmanos runs, and the Breast Center at Karmanos’ main campus in Detroit.
“It is particularly gratifying to receive donations from fundraising events planned by staff members,” said Nick Karmanos, senior vice president of Institutional Relations. “Our employees play a large part in making the Institute a success. When they go above and beyond their every day job to support Karmanos, it says something about the pride everyone feels working here and the belief in our mission of eradicating cancer.”
The event featured donations of auction and raffle items from the Detroit Red Wings, Lear Corp., Todd’s Room, Tower Automotive, the Cupcake Station and the Yoga Shelter. Lear was a Platinum sponsor and donated $10,000 to the event.
