Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Multiple Myeloma research program benefits from baseball fundraiser

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Multiple Myeloma research program has received support from the South Lyon High School baseball team, which recently hosted the Cancer Battle Baseball Game against their rival, South Lyon East.

Lawrence Lum, M.D., D.Sc., professor of  Oncology, Medicine, and Immunology and Microbiology at Karmanos and Wayne State University School of Medicine, was present at the game and gave a talk about the research program.

“We truly appreciate efforts like these by the community to fund our research programs at Karmanos,” said Dr. Lum. “It’s especially gratifying when young people rally around our cause. Without the support of individuals and the community, we would not be able to make the kind of progress that we do in providing all our patients with the best treatments available.”

Despite some rain on the day of the Battle, the game generated wonderful community support among individuals who came out to watch a great baseball game and support KCI’s research program through T-shirt sales and a silent auction.

We thank everyone for their generosity and support!
