Karmanos breast cancer research benefits from Made In Detroit Rosie the Riveter T-shirt sales

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has received $10,000 from sales of Made In Detroit ‘Rosie the Riveter’ T-shirt sales. Funding will benefit Karmanos’ breast cancer research programs.

T-shirt sales began in June of last year and kicked off in part with Karmanos Partners’ fundraising efforts. The Partners also honored Kid Rock, owner of Made In Detroit, and the Kid Rock Foundation for the extraordinary philanthropy that he and the organization has shown to Karmanos and the metro Detroit community as a whole. The Partners’ two events – the Partners Golf Classic, held in August and Partners Night, held in September – raised nearly $700,000 for Karmanos.

The Made In Detroit T-shirts feature the iconic ‘Rosie the Riveter’ character sporting a pink tattoo, Made In Detroit pin and speaking the highly-memorable phrase, “We Can Do It!” At the bottom is the charge, “Let’s go to work to find a cure.”

“We are thrilled with the contribution that Made In Detroit has so generously provided to breast cancer research at Karmanos,” said Nick Karmanos, senior vice president of Institutional Relations at Karmanos Cancer Institute. “Though Kid Rock has achieved international fame, it’s wonderful to see that his roots are still firmly planted in Detroit and that he truly cares about the health and well-being of the citizens of his home town. We thank him and Made In Detroit for this support.”
