Monday, January 20, 2014
Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute employees have been recognized by Winning Futures, a metro Detroit mentoring organization based in Warren. Web Manager Corinne Duluk and Wanda Sheard, administrative assistant in Genetic Counseling and Nursing Administration, are involved in the mentoring program.
Winning Futures is thanking its mentors in recognition of National Mentoring Month in January and acknowledging them for their dedication to the community and passion for helping young people. According to Winning Futures, Karmanos employees provide an essential resource in the community and dedicate their time and talents to helping young people develop into self-sufficient, successful adults.
"We would like to thank all of our mentors and Karmanos for investing in the lives of young people,” says Ken Elkins, program manager and marketing director for Winning Futures. “Their support illustrates that they are committed to improving our communities and helping to cultivate tomorrow's workforce.”
Winning Futures' mentors help local high school students develop the attitude, vision and skills they will need as they enter adulthood. With the guidance and support of their mentors, Winning Futures’ students outline their vision for the future and develop a five-year strategic plan to realize those goals.
Thank you, Corinne and Wanda, for going above and beyond your job responsibilities at Karmanos to help young people in the community!
