A slate of remarkable women, known locally and nationally, gathered for the 13th annual Florine Mark's ReMARKable Women Live fundraiser for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
The event, held at The Henry in Dearborn, included a lunch, an exhibitors’ area and guest speakers, including Anne Thompson, former Detroit-based journalist and award-winning national news correspondent for NBC Nightly News, the Today show and NBCNEWS.com.
Thompson, a breast cancer survivor, has traveled the country sharing her story and others' stories of living with cancer.
Erin Cummings, actress from "Detroit 187" and the recently debuted CBS-TV series, "Made In Jersey" as well as the founder of Mittens for Detroit, also was a special guest at the event.
ReMARKable Women Live was named after Florine Mark, president and CEO of The WW Group Inc. in Farmington Hills. Mark, a Detroit native, brought the Weight Watchers concept to Michigan in 1966 and expanded it to other states, Canada and Mexico, starting what would become the largest Weight Watchers franchise.
Karen Newman, vocalist, recording artist and singer for the Detroit Red Wings, provided the musical entertainment during the event.
