Recent news of the development of a blood test to track the potential progression of cancer sparked media interest around the world. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston announced that they've been working on a blood test that is so sensitive that it can detect a single cancer cell among millions of healthy cells. The test shows such great promise that a partnership has been formed with a health care company to expand the testing to bring this to market.

 

What does this mean for the future of cancer care? Philip Philip, M.D., Ph.D., F.R.C.P., leader of the Multidisciplinary Team for Gastrointestinal Oncology at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine, addresses media questions regarding the impact of this blood test on cancer treatment.
