Sam's Club continues to provide support to Karmanos
Wednesday, February 04, 2009
For the second year in a row, Sam’s Club generously donated $10,000 to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The donation will help fund vital cancer research, patient care and community education programs.
A portion of the 2008 donation was used to help implement the Karmanos Art Cart program. The Art Cart program is a set of two portable carts that are stocked with art supplies for patients to use free of charge while they are in the hospital. Four Karmanos volunteers help manage the Art Cart program. In its first month, the Art Cart reached more than 35 in-patients. In addition to the $10,000 gift, Sam’s Club also provided a Wal-Mart gift card to help refill various art supplies for the cart.
“We greatly appreciate the support of Sam’s Club and its efforts to continue to provide crucial funds for many of our programs at Karmanos,” stated Nick Karmanos, vice president of Development at Karmanos. “We look forward to continuing to build upon our great partnerships with local stores and corporations who are dedicated to helping Karmanos and its patients.”
