Shaggieink continues to support undercompensated care at Karmanos

The 11th annual Celebration of Hope, hosted by Shaggieink was a smashing success, with generous donations and gracious guests eager to support the undercompensated care fund at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. At the U.A.W. Local 387 in Flat Rock MI, this celebration of cancer survival featured dinner, dancing, auctions and raffles.

Carol Kudron, assistant, Social Work and Supportive Services Department Karmanos Cancer Institute attended the event for the first time and stated “I never felt like and outsider, it was like one big family that comes together to support one another and the cause. Everyone I met at the event either had cancer themselves or knew someone that has cancer,”

Larmender Davis, director, Social Work and Patient Support Services, met with Shaggieink on Thursday, December 15 to accept the check of $6,000 from this event. Larmender said, "We appreciate donations from third parties. Due to harsh economic times more patients struggle with their financial obligation and this gives some relief. Patients can now focus on recovery”.

Shaggieink is a registered non-profit organization that is passionate about empowering people in need, and committed to raising funds by continuing to have this benefit “Celebration of Hope Party” every November. Shawn “Shaggie” Maynard, a cancer survivor, is a driving force behind this annual event.

The 12th Annual Celebration of Hope will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Stay tuned for more details to come.
