2010 FRIENDS FOR THE CUREŽ DONATIONS PROGRAM

2010 Incentives will be mailed out the first week of August.

One Person. One Promise. One Cure. YOU have the power to make a difference.

Breast cancer does't take a break and neither should we! We accept donations year-round and all funds raised now are counting towards the 2010 Friends for the CureŽ program. Remember, YOU are the cure!

Manual donations (submitted on paper forms) can be mailed to: 4100 John R, Mail Code VE01RF, Detroit, MI 48201 Attn: Komen Detroit Race for the CureŽ. Please make checks payable to: Komen Detroit Race for the CureŽ. Click printable forms (in PDF format) to download a manual form. We also have receipts that you can give your donors. In order to view these files, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Offline donations will be combined to your online fundraising totals by Race staff after they are received. Offline donations can only be entered by Race staff and will be posted to the website as soon as possible. If you are NOT registering for the Race and would like to raise funds and qualify for the awards and incentives you must set up set up a personal donation page.

In 2009, the Friends for the CureŽ program raised $895,490! That's 45% of total Race revenue (just over $2 million). Please help us fight breast cancer by collecting tax-deductible donations from family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Without this funding, our community could lose lifesaving local programs and research dollars. One Person. One Promise. One Cure. YOU have the power to make a difference.

Matching Gift Programs

Donations can be doubled or even tripled when participating organizations match funds. Check with your company's Human Resources Department (or the department you know manages donation programs) to see if a matching program exists or can be created. Please submit completed matching forms when you turn in your Friends for the CureŽ donations. Click here for a list of organizations that may match Komen Detroit Race donations. Earn great prizes while helping to raise funds to fight breast cancer! It's never too early to start fundraising! There are two ways to participate: ONLINE fundraising with your own personal donation page (received when you registered online) on the Race website www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure and MANUALLY by using the paper copy of the Friends for the CureŽ form and mailing it in with your donations or turning it in on Race day. This form is available online and on the Race entry form. Manual (offline) donations will be added to your online fundraising total by Race staff once received at the Race office. The level of recognition and rewards will be based on the fundraiser’s total of all donations, online and manual (offline). Online donations must be received by July 1, 2010 to qualify for the 2010 Friends program incentives. Manual forms must be postmarked by July 1, 2010. All awards will be presented at the 2010 September Celebration. If you are NOT registering for the Race and would like to raise funds and qualify for the awards and incentives you must set up set up a personal donation page.

2010 FUNDRAISING AWARDS & INCENTIVES FOR INDIVIDUALS

1st Place :The top fundraiser (minimum $5,000) earns one American Airlines ticket to any destination in the contiguous U.S and first place plaque.

2nd Place: Gift basket and second place plaque.

3rd Place: Gift basket and third place plaque.

Raise $2,500:

  • Membership in the exclusive Friends for the CureŽ Platinum Club with an invitation (plus guest) to a Thanksgiving Dinner celebration in April 2010. Members receive a Platinum Club Race Day shirt courtesy of Variations Salon in Dearborn. A special gift from New Balance Farmington Hills/Troy will be presented at the April dinner along with a Platinum Club certificate.

Raise $2,000:

  • See New Balance Lace up for the CureŽ certificate program below.

Raise $1,500:

  • See New Balance Lace up for the CureŽ certificate program below.

Raise $1,000:

  • Invitation to the exclusive post-Race celebration (September 22, 2010) with refreshments, awards, breast cancer presentation by experts from the Karmanos Cancer Institute and a chance to win one American Airlines ticket to any destination in the contiguous U.S. (one chance for every $1,000 raised). You or your authorized representative must be present to win.
  • See New Balance Lace up for the Cure certificate program below.

Raise $750:

  • Receive the 14th edition Komen Detroit Friends for the CureŽ hat (mailed in August 2010).

Raise $500:

  • See New Balance Lace up for the CureŽ certificate program below.

Raise $250:

  • Receive a New Balance gift certificate good for one pair of women's Lighting DryŽ lo-cut Lace Up for the CureŽ socks AND $10 off any purchase of $50 of more. Gift certificates are accepted at the New Balance Farmington Hills and Troy stores only (www.nbdetroit.com).

New Balance Lace up for the CureŽ Awards
For every $500 raised up to $2,000, you will earn a $40 New Balance gift certificate good for Lace up for the CureŽ shoes and apparel. Raise $500 to receive one certificate, raise $1,000 to receive two certificates, etc. up to $2,000 (four certificates). Gift certificates are accepted at the New Balance Farmington Hills and Troy stores only (www.nbdetroit.com). 2010 FUNDRAISING AWARDS FOR TEAMS

New Balance Top Fundraising Team Challenge Award
Awarded to the team in each category with the most fundraising dollars. Certificates are good at Farmington Hills and Troy stores only.

Category 1 (10 to 25 members) receives $200 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 2 (26 to 50) receives $400 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 3 (51 to 100) receives $600 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 4 (101 to 300) receives $800 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 5 (301+) receives $1,000 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.

New Balance Highest Percentage Team Challenge Award
Awarded to the team in each category with the highest percentage of team members fundraising, at a minimum of $100 each. In case of a tie, the award will be given to qualifying team with the most dollars. Certificates are good at Farmington Hills and Troy stores only.

Category 1 (10 to 25 members) receives $200 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 2 (26 to 50) receives $400 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 3 (51 to 100) receives $600 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 4 (101 to 300) receives $800 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.
Category 5 (301+) receives $1,000 in New Balance gift certificates for Lace up for the CureŽ merchandise.

September Celebration
Teams with at least 40 members or those that raise over $5,000 in total team donations received an invitation for the Team Captain and 3 guests to attend the exclusive post-race celebration on September 22, 2010 with refreshments, awards and a breast cancer presentation by Karmanos Cancer Institute experts.

All winnings are taxable per applicable law.

Gifts of stock are also a welcome donation.  Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Donations mailed to the Detroit address or delivered to the Friends tent on race day will be added to any online donations as soon as possible. This is a manual input done by volunteers. We appreciate your patience.

Thank you acknowledgments will be mailed to all donors who submitted manual donations (paper forms) of $25 or more, for whom we have valid addresses.

Email acknowledgments will be sent to all on-line donors at the time of their donation. They will not receive an additional acknowledgment by mail.

If you are part of a TEAM, any donations turned in by you (the fundraiser) will be credited to your TEAM total.
