Alcoholic beverages have been linked to cancers of the oral cavity, larynx, esophagus and liver. This risk is greatly increased for those who also smoke. Although evidence is not as strong for other forms of cancer, further research may also confirm the increased risk for more cancers.

  • Alcohol consumption is not recommended, but if you do drink, men should not drink more than 2 drinks a day and women should not drink more than 1 drink per day.

  • One drink is equivalent to
    5 ounces of wine
12 ounces or 1 can of beer
1.5 ounces or 1 shot of 80 proof liquor

  • Alcohol contains calories, but no nutrients. To get as many nutrients from the calories you eat, look for foods low in fat and sugar such as fruits and vegetables.

  • Certain people should never drink: Persons who are not able to control their alcohol, women who are going to have a baby, persons on medication, persons who are not 21, and persons who are going to be driving.

  • Although some studies have shown protection from coronary heart disease with a low consumption of wine or alcohol, many studies have shown the negative effects on the health and well-being of individuals who over-consume alcohol. Higher levels of alcohol intake are associated with increased blood pressure, heart disease, liver failure, and certain cancers.

We have a great list of non-alcohol drink recipes for your enjoyment!
