Cancer Awareness & Prevention

An estimated two-thirds of all cancers are preventable. According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United State. Information and education are key to cancer prevention, early detection and to sound decision making about treatment options. Karmanos offers the following education resources:

Community Education

Karmanos staff and volunteers visit businesses, churches, schools, shopping malls, health care forums and virtually any venue conducive to informing individuals on ways to prevent cancer and its warning signs, and the very latest in screening, diagnostics, treatment and follow-up care through educational presentations, materials and displays. To learn more about our community education services call 1.800.KARMANOS.

Cancer Fact Sheets

Karmanos offers free fact sheets on the most common forms of cancer and topics of interest. These are geared to persons concerned about their cancer risk and interested in prevention and early detection -- not to persons diagnosed with cancer.

Genetic Counseling

These educational sessions are offered on a regular basis at Karmanos and by appointment. Participants learn about inherited breast and ovarian cancer genes and how to reduce their risk. For more information on these session contact 1.800.KARMANOS.

Smoking Cessation

Whatever your reason for quitting – cost, your health or for your loved ones – you have to make the choice to quit and do it for a reason that is important to you. Karmanos is here to support your efforts and provide resources to help you successfully quit smoking.
