- Give
them as a gift to your team members.
Did
you know that...

Okay,
Team Captains...this month, take a new direction. Focus
on your TEAM MEMBERS. Just think what we could do if
EVERY team member raised at least $100.

| SPOTLIGHT ON THE
TEAMS COMMITTEE |
|
This
month's spotlight: Deb Pank
Ziegenfelder
Deb Pank Ziegenfelder lives in
Orchard Lake with her husband Jeff and son Tyler. She
actually met Jeff in a hot tub while on a ski trip to
Aspen, and they were married on the top of Vail a few
years later. Deb is an avid college football fan, having
graduated from Penn State. Jeff graduated from Michigan,
so once a year there is a heated rivalry in the
household. Deb is trying to make Ty a fan, but he's not
buying into it yet.
Deb
is an engineer who has worked for GE Aircraft Engine,
Ford, Visteon and now Chrysler.
Her
first involvement with the Komen Detroit Race for the
Cure® came in 2006 when her college roommate, Connie,
was diagnosed with breast cancer. Deb has walked in her
honor/memory since that year. During her first year
walking, she was deeply inspired to get more involved in
defeating this horrible disease. She has been co-captain
of the Pink Squirrels with her good friend, Ann Cramer.
Both Deb and Ann joined the Race Teams Committee this
year.

Susan
G. Komen for the Cure® Unveils Single Largest Investment
for Washingon, D.C. Area Breast Health Programs in Local
Race's History
Announcement Comes as Organization Kicks
Off Registration for 2011 Susan G. Komen Global Race for
the Cure®
At a news conference on March 2,
2011 to kick-off registration season for the 2011
Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® in Washington,
D.C., leaders from Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
announced a new $4.5 million investment in breast health
education and outreach programs. "The big impact we will
be able to make on breast health with this investment is
a bold statement from our community that we remain
united behind our promise to save lives and end breast
cancer forever," said Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, founder
and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Prior to last year's Komen Global Race for
the Cure, the organization unveiled an analysis of the
state of breast health in the National Capital Area. The
study found that women diagnosed with breast cancer in
this area are still more likely to die from the disease
than the national average, despite increased awareness
about the disease. The organization concluded that women
in the area need a more comprehensive understanding of
the disease, including how it's discovered and treated.
The report also found that the region's overly
fragmented health care system produces substantial
barriers to accessing care for major segments of the
population. More... | | |

NOTE FROM THE TEAMS CHAIRS |
The last few months have been exciting
as we ho sted the first two Team Captain's
Workshops. What fun we've had getting to know new captains,
seeing familiar faces of our returning team captains, and
sharing your enthusiasm and energy.
Team captains continue to be an
inspiration to us. You may not know this, but YOU ARE THE CURE
- and don't ever forget that! Thank you for everything you
do.
