you're AWARE, let's move from awareness to ACTION.
Congratulations

Margaret Flowers, who registered 4 - the
most members on her team just 12 hours after registration
opened.
Invite
out-of-town guests to register for your team and make a long,
holiday weekend of it. Encourage your team members to
enjoy all that our metro Detroit community has to offer during
Memorial Day weekend. Watch our website for more on
this. |

BEING A
TEAM CAPTAIN |
|
Whether
you're a first-time team captain or a veteran, it's
always more fun when you know your responsibilities, including
deadlines. Here are some important Team Captain
steps:
- Register your team (even if your team
members register with paper forms, you must register your
team name online). Click here for step-by-step
instructions on how to create a team. You must register
every year - even if you use the same team name as in
the past.
- Register yourself as a team member.
- Visit the Race
website to view the downloadable 2012 Team Captain
Kit (coming soon).
- Join us for a Team Captain Workshop - the
FIRST one is November 17, 2011.
- Recruit people to join your team. Online team
registration ends at midnight, May 8, 2012. (Manual team
registration closes on April 30, 2012.)
- Remind everyone about the Early Bird Special. Your team
will not only save money, but can start fundraising earlier.
Everyone wins!
- Encourage every team member to fundraise. Lots of fundraising tips in
upcoming newsletters and the Team Captain Kit.
- Communicate Race and breast cancer information to your
team - educate and empower.
- Encourage online
registration. Less expensive for
registrants.

tough. Breast
cancer is tougher. And our Komen Detroit team captains have
proven to be the toughest of all. Captains lead through
their own personal fundraising and set the bar for their
teams. With the online tools we provide and by planning
benefit events, fundraising is fun and easy.
Last year, the
Friends for the Cure program raised over $1.1 million. Our 2012
goal is to break that record and have the Friends program
raise $1,200,000. Plan your attendance at one or
all of the fundraising celebrations highlighted below, by
creating an individual and team fundraising goal
today.
