Quicken Loans’ team members have shown incredible commitment to the mission of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute with their recent donation of more than $180,000 to help fund Karmanos’ new pathology laboratory.
In 2012, Quicken Loans told its banking team that it would donate $100,000 to Karmanos Cancer Institute if the team met its production goal. That goal was not only met, but exceeded, according to Adam Speck, Quicken Loans regional vice president of Mortgage Banking.
“Every region hit its goal,” said Speck. “I’ve never seen a team of passionate individuals work harder to reach those goals and to raise funds for Karmanos.
“The presence that Karmanos Cancer Institute has in metro Detroit makes it an obvious choice when it comes to supporting an organization that does so much to better the lives of others,” Speck added.
Not only did Quicken Loans contribute $100,000 to Karmanos, team members created their own initiatives to raise more than $80,000 in additional funds. Those efforts included bake sales, T-shirt sales and various raffles.
Funding raised by Quicken Loans will support construction of Karmanos’ new 4,200-square-foot Clinical Core Laboratory. The new lab will provide basic clinical testing for Karmanos doctors on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis. Construction on the lab is expected to be complete by the end of June 2013. With the new lab, new jobs will be added, including the recruitment of medical technologists and laboratory assistants.
“We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication that Quicken Loans’ team members have shown to support our Institute,” said Nick Karmanos, senior vice president of Institutional Relations at Karmanos. “Their generosity will translate to continued top-notch care for the individuals who entrust their health and well-being to our medical staff. We thank Quicken Loans and its team members for their tremendous donation.”
