Karmanos celebrates National Healthcare Decisions Day Tuesday, April 16
Thursday, April 04, 2013
The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center’s Social Work and Supportive Services Department, in conjunction with Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer and other national, state and community organizations, are leading a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making — an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of Tuesday, April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD).
We are providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and to create written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney) in accordance with Michigan state law.
The public is welcome on Tuesday, April 16 to visit our informational table outside of the Patient Education Resource Library at our main campus, 4100 John R, Detroit, MI 48201, for free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms. The event will be held from:
- 9 – 10 a.m.
- Noon – 1 p.m.
- 3 – 4 p.m.
Karmanos also will hold a free patient and family discussion from 11 a.m. to noon April 16 in the Wertz Classroom at our main campus.
A video and PowerPoint presentation will loop on clinic televisions and on channel 50 in the inpatient room televisions at Karmanos, discussing advance directives and the importance of communicating with healthcare providers.
