WDIV Local 4 featured Karmanos lung cancer patient Joe Stech and his physician, Shirish M. Gadgeel, M.D., in recent newscasts. Joe, a resident of Indiana and someone who has never smoked, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in January 2010. When his cancer treatment stopped being effective, Joe sought out the experts and clinical trials at Karmanos. He travels three hours each way a couple of times a month for the clinical trial. He is grateful to have the option of this new treatment, giving him more time to enjoy life with his family. Barb Manica, manager, Investigational Drug Services, also appears in the piece.
