Meritor's Casual Friday Charity Event Raises Funds for Karmanos' Clinical Core Laboratory
Thursday, September 12, 2013
The Purchasing team at Meritor, Inc. in Troy, Mich., has helped support the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute’s new Clinical Core Laboratory by recently holding a Casual Friday charity event at their offices. Employees were invited to participate by donating $5 to wear jeans. This was done in memory of a Meritor employee who lost her battle to cancer in 2012. An amazing $7,273 was raised from this event!
Besides holding Casual Friday, the Purchasing team went above and beyond by inviting their employees to participate in multiple events throughout the day, such as a one-mile poker walk, silent auction, and a putting contest, sponsored by golf retailer, Golfsmith. The one-mile poker walk had participants walk on the outdoor walking path, along with being handed five cards that they turned in at the finish line. The walker with the best poker hand received a $150 gift card to The Capital Grille.
Nick Karmanos, senior vice president of Institutional Relations at Karmanos, spoke at the event and was joined by Katy Kaliszewski, Third Party Events coordinator, to witness the excitement of the events.
“It’s great whenever a company uses its creativity to raise funds,” Karmanos said. “We truly appreciate the fact that Meritor is giving its employees a fun incentive to support our Clinical Core Laboratory, all while remembering one of their colleagues.”
Karmanos is grateful for the support from the Purchasing team at Meritor who helped make this a successful event!
