Sista Strut 2013 raises funds for BCCCP, administered by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute

The 2013 Sista Strut event, recently hosted by WMXD (92.3FM), raised awareness and funds for the Wayne County Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), administered by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and was an amazing two-day celebration. A Pink Gala Dinner kicked off the festivities, with the Sista Strut Walk taking place the following morning.
The Pink Gala Dinner was held Oct. 4 at the Pi Banquet Hall in Southfield. This sold-out event featured a performance by Avant with special guest Algebra, along with music, dinner, dancing and raffle tickets sold by KCI.
On Oct. 5, runners and walkers braved the weather, and came together for the Sista Strut Walk at the Detroit Riverwalk- Rivard Plaza. The morning event attracted a great turnout of men and women from the metro Detroit area. After the walk, the participants created a circle of hope where they shared their stories about why the walk was meaningful to them.
The BCCCP program at Karmanos provides breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic follow-up for uninsured and underinsured, low-income women ages 40-64.
