Pembroke Elementary School kicks off breast cancer awareness month to benefit Karmanos Cancer Institute

Pembroke Elementary School in Troy, Mich., recently held its annual “Pink for a Purpose” fundraiser to raise funds for breast cancer research at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Students and staff members could purchase pink, clip-in hair extensions to support the cause.

Two stylists from the Thomas D. Salon in Birmingham, Mich., along with a few of Pembroke’s staff members and parents, were at the school to help install the pink hair extensions. The extensions were $10 if students pre-paid, and $15 if they were purchased on the day of the fundraiser.

Pembroke Elementary School’s 300 students, kindergarten through fifth grade, raised an amazing $1,065 through “Pink for a Purpose”!

Katy Kaliszewski, Third Party Events coordinator at Karmanos Cancer Institute, was invited to the school during an assembly where she was presented with the check.

Karmanos is grateful to each student, staff member and parent who helped to raise these critical funds for breast cancer research!
