Meritor embraces breast cancer awareness month and supports Karmanos Cancer Institute

Meritor located in Troy, Mich., worked throughout the month to raise breast cancer awareness and funds in support of breast cancer research for Karmanos Cancer Institute.  On October 30, they celebrated their month long initiative with a pink pancake breakfast.  The event featured pink pancakes, yogurt, juices and a breast health presentation presented by Denise Henderson, Nurse Educator at Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Throughout the month, there were many opportunities for Meritor employees to donate to the Institute with jeans days, various lunchtime activities, and a special pink carnation fundraiser. More than 2,000 carnations were purchased by employees, all of which featured a mammography reminder for the intended recipient.  Limited-edition Meritor-branded pink merchandise was also available for purchase, with 30 percent of sales being donated to Karmanos.

Nick Karmanos, senior vice president for Institutional Relations at Karmanos, was invited to join one of the jeans days to see the company’s support first-hand.  “Meritor has been a remarkable partner, and their dedication to raising funds for breast cancer research here at Karmanos Cancer Institute is incredible,” Karmanos said. “Their generous support helps us to continue the ground-breaking research that goes on each day at our Institute, which in turn allows us to offer our more than 6,000 newly-diagnosed patients each year the very best in cancer care.”

Meritor has been a longtime supporter of health initiatives and is deeply dedicated to sharing important information with Meritor team members, along with raising funds for breast cancer research and care all across the globe. From sponsoring the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure, Detroit Zeta and Tau Alpha’s 7th Annual 5K at Michigan State University, to sponsoring a pink-wrapped rig at the Federation Internationale de I’Automobile European Track Racing Championship in France and raising funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Association through a convoy of 88 trucks - Meritor has made it their mission to reach as many women across the United States and the rest of the world as possible.

Karmanos is grateful for the support of Meritor and their commitment to furthering awareness and raising funds to support education, research and treatments for breast cancer!
