Social Media Policy

Thank you for participating with Karmanos Cancer Institute in its social networking communities such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

We request that you treat others with respect, even if disagreements occur. Please do not post material that could be considered an infringement on the rights of others. Karmanos reserves the right to delete postings or block users that it deems to be slanderous, obscene, solicitous or threatening.

Remember that these are public forums and whatever information you share is viewed by the public. Consider this carefully before posting detailed personal medical information. Karmanos has no control over the policies and practices of these third party sites. Once you leave, you are subject to the policies of those sites.

The information provided by Karmanos Cancer Institute on these platforms is intended for educational purposes only. It is not intended as an endorsement or a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

If you are a Karmanos employee, please remember that all laws and Karmanos policies apply, including but not limited to Privacy, HIPAA, Security and Safety. Please take time to review these polices. Please consult your supervisor if you have questions about the appropriateness of your comment.

By participating with Karmanos in social networking communities, you agree to indemnify Karmanos Cancer Institute against any damages, losses, liabilities, judgments, costs or expenses arising out of a claim by a third party relating to any posts you have made.

Code of Ethics

 As Karmanos engages in conversations on the Internet, the following code of ethics applies, both in Karmanos-sponsored sites and in comments on other sites.
  • Karmanos blog posts and comments will be accurate and factual.
  • Karmanos will acknowledge and correct mistakes promptly.
  • When corrections are made, Karmanos will preserve the original post, showing by strike through what corrections have been made, to maintain integrity.
  • Karmanos will delete spam and/or comments that are off-topic.
  • Karmanos will reply to emails and comments when appropriate.
  • Karmanos will link directly to online references and original source materials.
Karmanos staff will disclose conflicts of interest and will not attempt to conceal their identity or that they work for Karmanos. Some bloggers work anonymously, using pseudonyms or false screen names. Karmanos discourages that. We believe in transparency and honesty.
