Spotlight/Description:

Stephen Ethier’s research interests, funded by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health, are the role of altered signaling pathways in cell transformation of breast cancer cells, the development of novel therapeutics and prognostic testing for breast cancer, and breast cancer oncogenes. He is the Deputy Director of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Professor in the Department of Pathology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Ethier has won numerous awards including the Ruth Tuttle Freeman Research Professorship (2002) and the Residents Outstanding Teacher Award in 1994. Ethier is the author of over 80 articles about cancer research in peer-reviewed journals, two book chapters and editor of two books. He is on the editorial board of many journals, including Breast Cancer Research and Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. Ethier received his B.A. (1977) at St. Anselms College (Manchester, New Hampshire), his M.S. in Radiologic Health (1979) at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his Ph.D. in Radiation
Biology/Carcinogenesis in 1982 from the University of Tennessee at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Ethier finished a post-doctoral fellowship in 1984 with the Department of Chemical Carcinogenesis at The Michigan Cancer Foundation in Detroit, Michigan.
