1,119 petitions
petitions
were signed at the Race asking Michigan's legislature to maintain funding of Michigan's Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program. The petitions and other efforts by Komen advocates and partners were successful! Funding has been restored for the state screening program! Additionally, we supported Sen. Glenn Anderson's breast cancer license plate bill with revenues dedicated to BCCCP.

In remembrance of the 40,000 lives lost to breast cancer each year in the U.S. alone, we introduced a Memorial Site. Assisted by ArtsCorpsDetroit of Wayne State University, a program to revitalize the urban community through the arts, visitors helped create a communal piece of art that will grow and appear at Komen Detroit events throughout the year. Photos of lost loved ones

Year-Round and Coming Up

Komen Detroit is a year-round resource to the metro Detroit community, working collaboratively with the other Komen Affiliates serving Michigan. With the support of volunteers, donors and community partners, we deliver breast cancer awareness and education, public policy advocacy, support and resource navigation for patients and families, fundraising and volunteer opportunities.

With thanks to all who supported our work to end breast cancer forever, the 20th annual Komen Detroit Race for the CureŽ, locally presented by Karmanos Cancer Institute, was a great success! We look forward to seeing you May 26, 2012 for “the best one ever”!
