Children/Youth Connection
Children are an important part of our Race and there's lots of fun to be had in the Visteon Children's Area.
Located in the stage lot and emphasizing that "Children are Co-Survivors, Too!" the Visteon Children's Area
provides an opportunity to educate families about breast cancer in a non-threatening, positive environment. Often, when someone is diagnosed with cancer,
the whole family may be experiencing fear, anger and other strong emotions. This may be the first time a child
has seen the family in a sad and stressful situation. Children often feel they have to "fix it" or "help," and may internalize their own fears and
confusion. The Visteon Children's Area has been developed to promote positive education about breast cancer, fitness and fun.
Enjoy family activities and pick
up goodies for the little ones, all while visiting with some surprise guests.
At the "Children are Co-Survivors, Too!" display area, you will see photos, artwork and stories depicting
co-survivorship from a child's perspective. Co-Survivors - family, friends, caregivers or colleagues - can be
sources of support and inspiration. Our children are often among those who have provided unconditional
love, support, and inspiration! Children 17 years of age and under can participate by submitting a
photo, artwork, or story. SUBMISSIONS ARE NEEDED by May 23 2008! Click here to learn more.
If you are a breast cancer survivor, honor the co-survivor who stands by your side and helps you
through the toughest of times with a special ribbon from the Survivor Café. Remember that "Children are Co-Survivors, Too!"
The Children's Area is open on Race day between 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. Look for the yellow balloons. Children must be accompanied by adults.
