Stephanie Strickland was diagnosed with stage four small cell lung cancer in 2010 at the age of 40. She had never smoked and had no family history of the disease. She said she really didn’t have any symptoms that gave her any indication that there was something was wrong, that is until she had a seizure while with her young son at his soccer game. Tests confirmed the shocking news; she had stage four lung cancer. After traditional treatments were no longer effective, Stephanie searched for a clinical trial which led her to the Karmanos Cancer Center and Shirish Gadgeel, M.D., leader of the Thoracic Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos.
