Carol’s Army donates blankets to Karmanos patients

Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit recently accepted a generous donation of cozy chemo blankets from the Brand family/Carol’s Army. The donation was made in support and honor of Carol Brand, a cancer patient who was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) in 2006.

Brand Family

In 2017, Carol was diagnosed with a recurrence of CLL along with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). On her very first day of chemotherapy, she was uncomfortably cold due to the strong medications. Her husband, Kip, promptly went out and bought her a blanket that in turn became known as her “chemo blanket.” The blanket was used for all of her future treatments. Remembering the comfort the blanket brought her, Carol asked that her family to start a foundation to assist other leukemia patients. May she now rest in peace knowing that she is greatly missed by both her devoted family and friends; her memory will now fight on through the foundation created in her name — Carol’s Army. The blankets are orange, which is the official color of leukemia.

Carol’s Army is a nonprofit, family-based foundation established to bring meaning to Carol Brand’s passing after her several years battling leukemia. Carol’s husband Kip, her daughter Kelly and grandchildren, Jackson, Grace and Jameson, donated 15 orange chemo blankets that were distributed to patients in Dresner clinic.

Thank you to Carol’s Army and the Brand Family for their generosity!
