Updates to COVID-19 masking guidelines

With COVID-19 infection and community transmission rates continue to drop nationally and locally, McLaren Health Care has announced we are easing our routine masking guidelines at our subsidiary hospitals and outpatient facilities effective Monday, April 17, 2023.

Masks will be optional for patients and in most areas of our facilities. However, masks will still be required in:

  • Intensive Care Units and holding areas with critical care patients, such as emergency departments,
  • Karmanos cancer centers and oncology outpatient clinics,
  • subacute/outpatient rehabilitation units,
  • skilled nursing facilities, and
  • procedural areas and operating rooms.
Any visitor or patient wishing to continue wearing a mask is welcome to do so. Masks will continue to be made available at all facility entrances, common areas, and near the areas that will maintain a masking requirement.

McLaren will continue monitoring COVID-19 rates, as well as state and federal guidelines, and make additional updates to the guidelines accordingly.
