Refer a Breast Oncology Patient

Karmanos Cancer Institute physicians are grateful to serve our region and value the relationship with community physicians when a referral to a comprehensive cancer center is needed. Our Breast Cancer Team collaborates with referring physicians to quickly and accurately confirm a cancer diagnosis and identify the type and severity of the disease. In some cases, we can even rule out what appeared to be a potential cancer diagnosis. If treatment is needed, this communication with referring providers continues during and after your patient goes through treatment at Karmanos.

Introducing your patient to the Karmanos Advantage

Each patient receives personal attention and a customized treatment plan from our breast cancer experts. During the initial visit, a physician will review medical records, medical history, mammograms, x-rays and pathology slides. The breast cancer team meets regularly to discuss patient care issues and refine individual patient treatment plans.

Depending on the case, Karmanos may also perform real-time breast imaging and diagnostic studies. A single breast tumor can be a combination of types or a blend of invasive and in-situ cancer. Our specialized breast cancer radiologists will evaluate the scans and make sure the proper diagnosis is made.
