3 McLaren hospitals recognized for physician-patient communication

Three McLaren Health Care system hospitals were recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading health care industry news outlet, for their physicians’ proficiency in effectively communicating with their patients.

Compiled from publicly reported data measured by the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), three McLaren Health Care hospitals earned five stars in physician communication, the highest achievable rating.

  • McLaren Northern Michigan (Petoskey)
  • McLaren Central Michigan (Mount Pleasant)
  • Karmanos Cancer Institute (Detroit)

“Anyone with a medical issue or health complication severe or serious enough to need care from a doctor can be understandably nervous and worried,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “The role communicating has in the care process cannot be overstated — it’s by that avenue through which patients are kept informed and, just as importantly, reassured that their health is in caring and qualified hands. I commend these hospitals for their capacity to provide this benefit to their patients.”

Of the approximately 6,100 hospitals in the United States, 347 hospitals — and 20 in Michigan — earned five stars.
