Though there are inherited and other biological factors we cannot control when it comes to our individual risks of developing cancer, there are, however, many different lifestyle factors we can change. A couple of those lifestyle habits we can control are diet and meal preparation. Wasif Saif, M.D., MBBS, medical oncologist, co-leader of the Gastrointestinal and Neuroendocrine Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and leader of the Phase I Clinical Trials MDT at Karmanos, outlined some habits we should consider when cooking to avoid being exposed to chemicals that can be linked to cancer, and some habits we can adopt that are safer.
