Patient Power
A recent study presented at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting compared treatment for CLL between academic centers and community cancer centers. Jay Yang, M.D., hematologist, medical oncologist and leader of the Hematology Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, commented on the study results, which showed that patients who received care at an academic center lived slightly longer. Dr. Yang also provided insight into a possible reason for the difference in outcomes between the two types of cancer care facilities and an option he can sometimes offer patients that gives them access to the care they need.
