Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan employees fundraise for Karmanos

Thank you to the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s (RIM) staff for their recent fundraiser supporting Karmanos!

On Friday, March 12, employees of the RIM Brasza Outpatient and Fitness Center who wore jeans donated five dollars, raising a total of $100. These funds will be used to assist patients with lymphedema who need financial assistance with garments and bandages. A check was presented to Michael Simon, M.D., MPH, co-leader of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, on April 22, 2021. The fundraiser was held in honor of Lymphedema Awareness Month, which occurs annually in March.

Lymphedema is the build-up of fluid in soft tissues due to damage or blockage of the lymph system. It can be caused by cancer itself, or it can be a result of cancer treatments such as surgery or radiation. Treatment may include the use of pressure garments or bandages.
