The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has appointed Praveen Dalmia, MS, MBA, to the newly created position, Corporate Director of Oncology Technology & Innovation. In this role, Dalmia will be responsible for strategic projects focused on technology and innovation at Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Karmanos Network of 14 locations throughout the state. He begins this new position immediately and jointly reports to Justin Klamerus, M.D., MMM, president of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Hospital and Karmanos Network and Lauren Lawrence, vice president, Karmanos
Cancer Network. As Dalmia assumes this new health system role, Lawrence, along with local leadership, will now oversee all operational responsibility of the Karmanos Network’s radiation oncology centers.
“Praveen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position,” said Dr. Klamerus. “His vision and leadership as a physicist and strategic thinker will enhance the excellent work already underway in McLaren and help drive innovations that will benefit all Karmanos patients.”
Dalmia joined the staff of McLaren Health Care, the parent company of Karmanos Cancer Institute, in 2004. Most recently, he served as corporate director of Radiation Services and prior to that he was chief medical physicist and director of Radiation Oncology at McLaren Macomb. He also worked at other health care organizations before joining McLaren.
Dalmia received a master’s of business administration from the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business; a dual master’s in medical physics and computer engineering from Wayne State University; and a master’s in space physics from the University of Delhi, in Delhi, India, where he also received his bachelor’s degree in physics.
A certified medical physicist by both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Medical Physics, Dalmia has contributed his expertise to numerous committees at the local, state and national level.
