Charitable Lead Trusts

Charitable Lead Trusts

A Charitable Lead Trust is an excellent way to provide an inheritance to loved ones while making a significant charitable gift through an estate.

The income from a Charitable Lead Trust can flow to the Institute for a stated number of years. Afterwards, remaining trust assets are then distributed to beneficiaries of your choosing.

The charitable lead trust is among the most complex. However, a nongrantor lead trust offers excellent tax benefits to the estate owner. Because of this arrangement, these are "nongrantor" trusts: the assets are not owned by, nor will they be returned to, the individual who established the trust. (A "grantor" trust is one in which the donor controls the assets and determines their distribution. The assets within these trusts are subject to taxes.)

There are many legal and personal issues to consider when establishing a charitable lead trust. You may find that such a trust represents one of the best ways to support the mission of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
