Karmanos Cancer Institute and Network ranked as the preferred cancer provider in Michigan

The Karmanos Cancer Institute, the world renowned cancer center based in Detroit, for the first time since joining McLaren Health Care in 2014 has become the preferred cancer treatment provider in Michigan. A subsidiary of McLaren, the three-state, 14-hospital health system, the Karmanos Cancer Network of treatment facilities stretches across the state, from Petoskey to Detroit, and recently expanded into Ohio.

In a poll conducted by NRC Health, 11.4 percent of statewide respondents named Karmanos and McLaren as their preferred Michigan cancer treatment provider.

“We’re grateful to every patient who puts their trust in us and into the care we offer,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Chief Medical Officer, who for several years served as President of the Karmanos Cancer Network. “The response from this survey affirms what we truly believe throughout our entire organization: that the care provided by our physicians and clinical teams is the best option for a patient’s or their loved one’s battle with cancer.”

This response is an increase over last year’s 10.3 percent preference, with the next closest competitor garnering 10.7 percent.

With facilities located throughout Michigan and into Ohio, Karmanos is the largest cancer network in the state and includes one of only two proton therapy treatment centers in Michigan.

The nationwide survey garnered more than 45,000 responses. With nearly 1,600 responses within the state, this largest percentage responded that they would utilize Karmanos and McLaren for their cancer care.
