Congratulations to Ashley Sutton, BSN, RN, staff nurse in the Karmanos Cancer Center ICU, who was named a DAISY Award winner. Ashley was nominated by a patient's family member for her nursing care excellence.
"You could see the respect Ashley has for her patients. Ashley explained everything, checked on us constantly and asked us if we needed anything. She answered our questions honestly. Ashley made things a little more bearable."
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere. More than 3,500 health care facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 21 other countries participate. More than 100,000 nurses across the world have received this recognition.
