Dr. Isaac Powell receives award from The American Urological Association

Congratulations to Isaac Powell, M.D., member of the Genitourinary Oncology Multidisciplinary Team. Dr. Powell has been awarded a Presidential Citation by the American Urological Association (AUA). This award recognizes Dr. Powell’s outstanding contributions regarding the biology, genetics and environmental impact of prostate cancer in African American men.

Presidential Citations are presented to individuals deemed to have significantly promoted the cause of urology. Each recipient is chosen by the AUA President.

“African American men have a 60 percent higher incidence and two to three times higher death rate compared to other ethnicities. It's an honor to be recognized by the American Urological Association with a Presidential Citation," said Dr. Powell. "The work we're doing at Karmanos to understand prostate cancer in African American men in comparison to men of other ethnicities is critical and this award shows national recognition of the work and its value."

Dr. Powell will be presented with this award at the AUA Meeting in September 2021. The ceremony will mark the 58th anniversary of the awards program and celebrate physician researchers and educators for their contributions to medicine, the specialty of urology, and the AUA. The American Urological Association is a leading advocate for the specialty of urology and has nearly 24,000 members around the world. It supports the urologic community as it pursues its mission of fostering the highest standards of urologic care through education, research and the formulation of health policy.
