During Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month in March, Karmanos joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Michigan Chapter, for their radio special on The Detroit Praise Network discussing multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is cancer of the plasma cells - a type of white blood cell in bone marrow. This disease is diagnosed in more African Americans than any other race in the United States. Karmanos’ Office of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement’s (OCHECE) Shoma Pal, manager, strategic planning, and Brittany Dowe, director of OCHECE, talk about what cancer health disparities are, and how the OCHECE engages with the community and our scientists to develop strategies to help reduce the burden and improve cancer outcomes across all populations.
