IN THE NEWS – Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Hear From a Survivor and a Surgeon on the Signs, Treatment

WDIV

Dionne Pierce has been courageously triumphing over her breast cancer for eight months. As the leader of the patient navigation team at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, she knew exactly what to do when she found a lump during a self-exam. When she received the shocking diagnosis, she sprang into action, building her breast cancer care team: Eric Brown, M.D., FACS, breast surgeon and co-leader of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), Michael Meininger, M.D., plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Lawrence Flahety, M.D., medical oncologist, and Jordan Maier, M.D., radiation oncologist. Now, she has a different perspective as she helps other cancer patients traverse their way through treatment. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she joined Dr. Brown for an interview on Local 4 to share her cancer journey.
