Hot Beverages / Vending Machine / Places to Eat

The Grove Café, located near the North Lobby, is open seven days a week from 8 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. A vending area for snacks and beverages is available near the Grove Café.

The Skylight Café, located in the Wismer Main Entrance, has a coffee shop atmosphere, serving gourmet coffees and snacks.

Parking

Free parking is available for your convenience. Multiple handicapped spaces are available for use. Wheelchairs are accessible for use during your visit to the cancer center. These are located just inside the lobby entrance.

No Smoking / Help Quitting Tobacco

The Karmanos Cancer Institute campuses are non-smoking campuses. Counseling is offered free-of-charge to help quit tobacco at the Michigan Tobacco Quit line: 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Internet Access

WiFi is available free of charge. You can connect to the WiFi by choosing the “guest” option on your phone, tablet or laptop.

Massage Chair

Heated massage chairs provide patients comfort during treatment.

Lab Services

Laboratory services are available on-site and at offsite facilities to provide convenient care.

Oncology Social Worker

Oncology social workers address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families during all phases of cancer treatment. They help provide a sense of control, empowerment, and understanding.

Areas of support include:

  • Counseling — individual, family and support groups
  • Problem solving and coping strategies
  • Advanced Directives: Making decisions about future care
  • Coordinating care needs and resource referrals
  • Education about resources and linking to community programs
  • Financial assistance and disability program information
  • Advocacy
  • Outpatient counseling referrals
  • Patient support groups and ancillary services

Oncology Nurse Navigator

The navigator’s primary role is to remove barriers and improve access to treatment. Our Nurse Navigator functions as an advocate for our patients and is there to assist them as they navigate through their cancer care journey.

  • Identifies barriers to treatment and assist to resolve them
  • They are patient educators, advocates, care coordinators and system navigators
  • Identifies and manages treatment side effects
  • Assists the patient to link them with resources that are available for them
  • Acts as a liaison with the health care team on their behalf
  • Helps to provide assistance with arranging low cost transportation

Cancer Care Nursing Team

The nursing staff in medical oncology and radiation oncology work hand-in-hand with patients, their families, caregivers, medical staff and the community to assure that an appropriate plan of care is developed and implemented to meet the needs of the patients. They work collaboratively to educate patients and schedule medical care. Many of our nurses have obtained additional education and training that specializes in oncology (cancer) care and are designated Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN).

Your cancer care team also includes our Medical Assistants (MA). They work directly with your physician and nurses as part of your care team

Genetic Counseling

The Cancer Genetic Counseling Service at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center involves documenting detailed personal and family history, conducting a personalized risk assessment and discussing your genetic testing options. The goal is to help you understand your cancer risk and the chance that cancer might be passed along through the genes in your family (risk assessment). This information can also help you to become more involved in ways to reduce your risk by modifying your lifestyle and developing a personalized screening and treatment plan. Wig Bank

McLaren Port Huron's Community Outreach offers free wigs and hats to women currently undergoing cancer treatment. This initiative is made possible by the generous public donations made through the Donna Niester Breast Cancer Fund. Spiritual and Pastoral Care

This service helps to provide you with a sense of meaning, purpose, and connection beyond oneself that can help to improve quality of life, and to help you put problems in perspective. Each person’s individual spiritual beliefs and experiences are nurtured and respected. McLaren Port Huron has a chaplain available for counseling and spiritual guidance. Nationally-Accredited Breast Center

McLaren Port Huron is the only breast center in St. Clair County accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). In addition, McLaren Port Huron has been an accredited Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Our experienced team of specialists and specially trained staff understand a woman’s anxieties about their breast health. The team encourages women to learn their risk for breast cancer, practice preventive measures and live a healthy lifestyle.

The Demashkieh Women's Wellness Place at McLaren Port Huron was designed by women for women, and is equipped with state-of-the-art breast imaging technology. We offer advanced three- dimensional (3D) mammography. When combined with conventional two-dimensional (2D) mammography it provides a higher cancer detection rate than conventional digital mammography alone.
